What exactly is the stock market? You have probably heard about it but may not know quite how it works. Since Mr. Moneybags is greedy with his money, he doesn't want anyone working for him that doesn't have some background knowledge about what they're doing. This page will help your group learn the basics about the stock market.

 Step 2:  Understanding Your Responsibilities as an Expert

On-line Investor

  • Research a variety of companies on the Internet.
  • Choose companies in which you want to invest $50,000.
  • Create a PowerPoint slide about one company you have chosen to present to Mr. Moneybags.

 

Financial Analyst and Reporter

  • Track the progress of the companies using the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and NASDAQ web pages.
  • At the end of the project, present the total profit/loss of your investments to Mr. Moneybags by creating graphs in PowerPoint.

 

Charity Chooser

  • Research a variety of charities on the Internet and choose one that will earn the profits from your investment in the stock market.
  • Create a PowerPoint presentation about your charity to present to Mr. Moneybags.
 

Step 3:  Start Earning Money!

One: Investing
  • Use the Portfolio Buy form and the links below to research companies on the NYSE or NASDAQ for investing.
  • You will invest a total of $50,000 and distribute the money you invest as you wish amongst the companies.
Two: Analyzing and Reporting
  • Using the Tracking Page, track the progress of your assigned company throughout the project. 
  • Lastly, complete the Portfolio Sell form

  Three: Charities
  • Use the Charities Chooser Guidelines Page and the links below to pick research worthy charities and narrow your search to one deserving charity.
